Frequently Asked Questions
Where do your products come from?
Forty or fifty years ago, porcelain doll-making was huge hobby. Supplying these doll makers was a multi-million dollar industry. Many doll makers opened shops, taught classes, and made top dollar for custom-made dolls. Many spent thousands of dollars on molds, kilns, fabric, lace, shoes, wigs, eyes, tools, etc. I am confident that many people spent hundreds of thousands of dollars. Now, the doll makers are getting older and passing away. Even though they want to continue, they just aren’t able to. So I buy these estates and re-sell the materials on the internet.
What does it take to make a doll?
This depends on what kind of doll you want to make. You can crochet, sew, carve, sculpt, or mold a doll. You can even 3-d print a doll. Wigs, shoes, and clothes can be used on any of these dolls. Porcelain dolls are made from liquid clay (porcelain slip) that is poured into molds and drained after a certain amount of time. The doll parts are then fired, painted, and assembled. Youtube is a great place to learn how to do this. Etsy is a great place for patterns. My shop on Ebay has molds, wigs, and shoes as well as other materials.
What if I don’t see what I need?
Email me or look “Dolly Estates” up on Facebook and Private Message me. I have over 2000 molds, and many more patterns, wigs, shoes, tools, eyes, etc. I am trying to get more listed, but everything takes time. I also have 2 doll mold lines (Jones Molds and Lincoln Molds) That means that I can make new molds for these dolls. Jones Molds’ catalog is listed under “Products.”I will list more as I can.
